Just a small comment. I guess that english is the international speedskating language, but this is a dutch forum. I will respect that by not posting too often..
By the way: Why do you answer me in english since I use google translate? ;)

Most of us do like it when you join in. The official board rule is that this is a dutch forum. My personal opinion (and probably from most of us) is that we do like it when you participate. I would rather have you explain yourself in English. The google translate from English to Dutch isn't always giving the true meaning if what you would like to say.

Serieus, elke Nederlander spreekt uitstekend Engels?

It was really not my intention to create a debate like this. My intention was to present my views on the important topic of the future of speedskating. The outlook and content of events on the international calendar - and the composition of it. To give you dutch a fresh input since you decide so much in the speedskating world. By listening to, and establishing slightly more daring and unconventional, holistic ideas than the establishment in the sport are doing today - adjustments - , the reward could by high.
Speedskating is struggeling to get attention in the competition against other sports, despite that speedskating is represented in impressingly many countries and continents.

By the reaction from the members of this forum, I realize that I chose the wrong arena because my stuff is written in english by a non dutchspeaking. I apologize for the inconvenience. :)
I also want to add that simply telling me that I am in a wrong forum is better than removing(!) posts from me. (For asking in dutch simply if all sections in H.veen are fully ready for december ? You are taking yourselves too seriously)

Greetings! I will find more suitable arenas regarding speedskating opinions. :) Case closed.

    Trending now: English. :p
No, just wanted to apologize that I misunderstood the removal of a post of mine. It was moved to another thread. Thanx for answering.
Secondly, I want to add that I have edited my summer posting regarding the speedskating calendar. Page 11 in this thread.
I like the idea of slightly bigger, more "daring" experiments (less etnocentric ;)) regarding the allround formats than we will experience this season. The 8 distance Saturday EK format is especially designed for a Heerenveen audience, whilst the task instead should be to try to achive/awake maximum (media) attention from the rest of Europe. What is there to loose?
    1. I like the idea of testing a "dreikampf". Fewer and fewer partisipants on the last, fourth distance makes it odd that you dont have prizegivings also after three distances. I am imagining two sets of time demands on the 5k, men and 3k, women in order to be able to compete in the "dreikampf" and on all four distances. Secondly I imagine a bigger emphazis on the 5k/3k in the tournament rather than the samalog standings when it comes to qualifying for the fourth distance: A Yuskov in the top four samalog will make it, but a Brodka in the top six will have to be satisfied with competing "only" on three distances. And - of course - it is also up to Yuskov himself to decide if he recons he has a chance on all four distances and will give it a go on the 10k. If you qualify for the 4th distance through your championship time on the third, you are qualified regardless of your pre-tournament time on the 5k(3k for women),
If you operate with a 500-1500-5000-10 000/500-1500-3000-5000 sequence, it is beneficial that you get excitement spread over several pairs on the third distance. On the fourth you are then back to the usual climax in the end.
    2. Why are you restricting yourselves on disscussing the mass start rules? The current one is OK, but it is much more funny imagining slightly more creative versions.
In Harbin we saw nothing from Seung Hoon Lee until the last meters, whilst a breakaway with unknown skaters are wholely dependant on what the pack behind decides to do. It is not like in cycling when you really think that the effort of a breakaway group really deserves the credits. Have a look at my suggestion on page 11!
    3. I want to see the introduction of a cup-competition on the 500! 500 is better suited than longer distances in order to get even, exciting duels. Lets have a look at the new EK-format again: By introducing a full sprint samalog in a three day event, you are asking for beeing ignored by the tv-companies outside the Netherlands (and possibly Norway). The german market would have appreciated my EK format much more ... :(.
    4. Sven Kramer is a great skater, but it is not beneficial for the sake of allround that he is so much better than all the rest. NO DOUBT he will win on Hamar. In Norway you have an expression (related to speedskating in its origins?) that when you win with your hands on your back, it is a very easy win. What is going on? Do you want to arrange this seasons allround WK also??

I love these kind of reflections :). (I think the timing is there because we are right in the aftermath of a congress, with enough time to the next one). In Scandinavia almost everybody beneath 80 have learned basic english. Must be something similar in your country? This is still a dutchspeaking forum though.
I am in a wrong place, but since I said A in the summer, I wanted to say B (and possibly C, D and so on...) because this "model" of mine is open to changes.
My experience is that it is VERY difficult to reach a common agreement on a model: everybodys got their own ideas. :).
If a well known skater/ex.skater or someone else with a name presents an idea, it is much easier for the establishment to embrace it. (Then it is often called a very good "idea", although its often not a new thought at all). The establishment ought to be listening to the fans also. One could hope that decision makers or persons with a name could be influenced by posts like these.
Dont know if you have a name SprintMaster (certainly bigger than mine ), but my thoughts on what you just listed:
Like the thoughts about changes regarding the 2x500 + 2x1000. A wider specter of distances/task would provide a higher entertaimaint rate, and strenghten the concept of The Big Sprint Champion. Problem: Guess you could match 500 with the flying lap (inner- and outer lanes), but what about 100 + 1000? On the single distance 1000 I find it kind of charming that the draw is a little bit too decisive (last inner lane usually an advantage). Over 4 distances its seems unfair.
Small fluctuations in the laptimes on your 5k will provide a higher degree of entertainment if this is presented in the right way. Still, you stick to the old formula that allround is for long distance skaters also managing a 500 + 1500. My idea is to add a "dreikampf" with the pendulum a little bit more towards the short- and middle distances. (I am able to do that since I also preserve the old classic 4 distance allround tournament. Dont think that 3k for women is a middle distance by the way. Even on 1500 for women you experience big time differences, so I would stick to 3k for women).
As for the points race: Your way of awarding points is not too complicated I must admit. But it is still there. Both spectators and racers easily loose track of the preconditions before the finishing sprint. Thats why I am in favour of scrapping the point system alltogether. Develop the tactical dimension in such a race in other ways.

How could allround be included in the Olympics?
    Three distances: 500 -1500-5000(3000, women).
In that order, and not separated from the single distances.
On the third distance, samalog is decisive for the pairings and order of the pairs. Besides the samalog you even award medals on the single distance of course.
Allround is one half of speedskating, but this is neglected by the IOC and the supporters.
    My other thoughts: page 11
