Really not easy to understand the wordings in the rules. Edit: Read it several times again, and I think you are right: Primarily using the WC1-4 to decide the quotas. If still open spots, or if some spots are rejected and reallocated, the reserve list come into force. The reserve list also make use of results from combinations to calculate points. From approved events. Preference for skaters that have no countrymen in any of the four competitions, secondly if you dont already have a countryman in that specific event. Max one skater per country on each reserve list As for Niels van der Poel , he will compete in Inzell this week end (!) If he has applied before the 1. of december that would be most correct, but if he makes the limit time on one of the distances concerned (1500+5000) and competes in both, he will probably, and apparently, be number two (three?) in line if any spots in the allround Event are handed back for reallocation.
Fantastic time by van der Poel on the 10k in Inzell today! In a radio interview today with SVT, the announcer said that Poel will participate in the EK, but he is unsure whether he will be able to participate on the 10k in the WSD. They depend on a "Wild Card" to the WSD, 10k. The latter seems possible to me given the reallocation of a japanese spot, and the wordings in the rule. A spot in the EK though, is not according to how we interprete the rules. Is it something here that we dont know? Tas recently also stated that she will participate.
Confirmed: van der Poel has a spot in the EK. The swedish federation applied for a spot for him, and got a positive reply. His goal on the 5k in Inzell was to skate a limittime for the EK and the World Cup. https://www.skridsko.se/Hastighet/Nyheterhastighet/antligeninternationelltavlingsstart
I literally can't stop screaming of joy right now, I've been waiting for so long!! Can't wait to see Nils skate his heart out again.
Exceptionally strange rules these days. 1ok: Forget the impretation of rules. Simply give vd Poel a spot and extend the 10k with one pair in the WSD champs. It would provide an extra spot us for grabs for the rest too. Win,win.
Denk het niet. In de regels staat dat een land "may exceptionally get maximum one quota place, pending the total number of entries for the competition concerned."
Your argumentation makes sense Mjøsaman. But why do they talk as if they were qualified for the EK? Wondering if there is something in the communication between ISU and the member federations that are hidden to us. Could it be that the ISU already have indications that certain spots will be handed back to them? You have cases like Japan, and I dont know the deadline for preliminary entries. We dont know which skaters that have applied for an exceptional quota place or not. The swedish federation have worked for, and managed to achieve a quota place...
First selection for the EK revealed. No surprises. Forhåndsuttak EM Heerenveen Sprint Damer: Julie Samsonsen Herrer: Håvard Lorentzen Allround Damer: Ragne Wiklund, Ida Njåtun og Sofie Karoline Haugen Herrer: Sverre Lunde Pedersen og Hallgeir Engebråten
The norwegian federation say that they are eager to fill their quotas to the EK. But again: why do they say that they have two, and not three spots in the womens sprint? By no means important for the outcome of that competition, but again: how do that correspond with the rules? https://www.skoyteforbundet.no/cont...akskriterier-2020-2021-redigert-8.12.2020.pdf
