Blijft toch wel bijzonder. Als je valt dan ben je beschermt, maar als je niet valt dan kun je buiten de ploeg "vallen". De vallen is de beste optie om niet uit de ploeg te vallen.
Nou, dat valt (haha) wel mee, hoor. Er staat precies omschreven wat een calamiteit is, en wie er uiteindelijk beslist, en op welke gronden. Dit staat er in het reglement:
Olympic Team Medal Contender Clause
Definition: A Medal Contender is defined as an athlete Who a) has placed in the top five positions in an individual distance at the 2013 World Single Distance Championships conducted March 21-24, 2013 in Sochi, Russia or b) placed in the top five positions overall in the same individual distance in overall World cup points standings in the distance in which the skater competed after all of the 2013-14 ISU Fall World Cups.
1. A maximum of one (1) medal contender per distance may be selected to the team.
2. Should more than one medal contender per distance qualify as a medal contender, the following tie breaker process Will be used (in order):
a. If medal contender status is earned according to a), the highest overall placement at the 2013 World Single Distance Championships in the specified distance will break the tie.
b. If medal contenders are still tied according to letter a), directly above, the highest rank on the 2013-14 ISU Special
Olympic Qualification Classifications as of the last day of competition at the 2014 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in the
specified distance will be the second tie breaker.
c. If medal contender status is earned according to b), the highest placement in the overall World Cup Points standings after all of the 2013-14 ISU Fall World Cups in
d. If medal contenders are still tied according to b), directly the specific event in which the individual qualified for
medal contender status Will break the tie. above, the highest rank on the 2013-14 ISU Special Olympic
Qualification Classifications as of the last day of competition at the 2014 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in the
specified distance Will be the second tie breaker.
3. In the event that a Medal Contender is unable to compete at or complete the 2014 U.S. Olympic Team Trials due to a verifiable illness, injury, or exceptional circumstance, the Medal Contender must submit a Medal Contender Petition Form (Attachment C) to the OLTSTF no later than 1 hour following the conclusion of the specific distance in which the medal contender is qualified for at the 2014 Olympic Team Trials, requesting the OLTSTF consider him /her for the final starting position(s) in the event(s) for which the skater is a Medal Contender.
a. If the Medal Contender provision is in effect for illness or injury, the Medal Contender should complete and submit
the Medal Contender Petition Form to the OLTSTF. This form allows US Speedskating, including a qualified physician selected by US Speedskating, to review the medical records for purposes of verifying the illness or injury. The Medal Contender should also submit Written evidence and other records from a qualified physician, acceptable to US Speedskating, as evidence. The petition must be signed by the Medal Contender and his/ her personal coach and if a minor, his /her parent or legal guardian.
b. If the Medal Contender provision is in effect for an exceptional circumstance, the Medal Contender should complete and submit the Medal Contender Petition Form to the OLTSTF but the medical release and authorization section of the petition is not required. The petition must be signed by the Medal Contender and his/ her personal coach and if a minor, his/ her parent or legal guardian.
c. The petition Will be considered by the OLTSTF, and if the petition is submitted due to illness or injury, the OLTSTF reserves the right to request an independent medical examination of the Medal Contender by a qualified physician chosen by US Speedskating at the expense of U.S. Speedskating. US Speedskating Will review all
submitted evidence which prevented the Medal Contender from competing or completing Trials and if due to illness
or injury, the prognosis for recovery. If, based on its review, the OLTSTF determines that special consideration
is warranted, and if due to illness or injury, the Medal Contender receives a medical release to return to training and competition from a qualified physician, acceptable to US Speedskating in its sole and absolute discretion, the
Medal Contender may be awarded the final starting position on the 2014 U.S. Olympic Team in the event(s) for
which the Medal Contender status Was earned.
. If the petition is submitted due to exceptional circumstance, the petition Will be considered by the
OLTSTF. US Speedskating will review the petition, explanation and all submitted evidence which prevented
the Medal Contender from competing or completing the 2014 U.S. Olympic Team Trials. If, based on its review, the
OLTSTF determines that special consideration is warranted, the Medal Contender may be awarded the final
starting position on the 2014 US. Olympic Team in the event(s) for which the Medal Contender status Was earned.
. The OLTSTF will take the evidence from all of the above and also take in to consideration the following , in no
priority order:
- placement and competitive field at the 2013 World Single Distance, 2013 World All Around and 2013 World Sprint Championships
- placement and competitive field at the ISU 2012/2013 season and 2013 Fall World Cups
- performances (results, times, standings from the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons at an ISU, national governing body sanctioned competition, or an approved long track metric time trial event that has the proper officials (ISU Rule 210 (1) (a-e) and must be printed in a published protocol.
- consideration if the athlete is a candidate for the team pursuit event. If Team Pursuit is being discussed, the discussion criteria would be as listed in section 2.2 Team Pursuit Selection.
