Kampioenschappen over een paar jaar (seizoenen 2023-2027)

Wanneer gaat de ISU eens inzien dat het EK (4CC) blocking zijn voor een fatsoenlijke kalender? In januari zou men nog twee World Cups kunnen houden en ben je meteen af van die mosterd na de maaltijd finale in maart.

Oplossing: zet het EK in december op de plek van de 4e WB.

nov: WB1 WB2
dec: WB3 EK
jan: WB4 WB5
feb: WB6 en WK afstanden
mar: dan heb je zelfs nog ruimte voor een WK allround en sprint.

4CC moet dan maar op een moment dat handig uit komt met de omliggende wereldbekers.

Inmiddels niet meer, hoor. Het EK 2023 is begin januari en het WK begin maart 2023. Twee maanden, waarin je wel 4 wereldbekers zou kunnen houden.
Ik vraag me af hoe het nu eigenlijk staat binnen de ISU. De Technische Commissie moet die wereldbekers plannen, maar die heeft een Rus als voorzitter. En bij de overige 5 leden zit ook nog een Wit-Rus. Zou die TC nog wel functioneren? Zou zo maar kunnen van niet.
Of wachten ze bij de ISU met het bekend maken van de wereldbekers tot na het Congres van begin juni, als er een nieuwe Technische Commissie aantreedt? Misschien waren er oorspronkelijk wel wereldbekers in Rusland en/of Wit-Rusland gepland?

Maar het is de ISU, dus met een beetje pech wordt het zoiets:

WK Junioren - Inzell
WK Afstanden - Heerenveen

dan kunnen het NK en het EK/4CC wel in november. Ruimte zat daar :P
 
Start of the World Cup in mid december...
Quite unbelieveable if the World Cup is further decimated. Last season only saw four meetings plus the final. One of course expects that it will be back to five in addition to the final. Two Week Ends in a row at the same location fine with me as long as the program is different. What the calendar really needs though, is a make over. It was a mistake to only have the samalog WK every other year. Quickly WSD was argued to must be held every season. Samalog WK left behind at the station.
Cut the season in two halves, each culminating with a WK. Make the qualifications personal. If you miss out qualifying for the first half, you still have the second to look forward to. (One could also have details saying that the EK/4CC SD could be held for those skaters missing out to qualify for the WSD, samalogmedals EK/4CC could be awarded at the samalog WK. Either awarded after three distances, or the usual four.)

De ISU heeft dan ook meteen maar de kalender voor het volgende seizoen vastgesteld:

Gazprom ISU World Cup #1 Kolomna 16-18 december: 500m, 1000m, mass start, team pursuit en team sprint.
Gazprom ISU World Cup #2 Kolomna 22-24 december: 500m, 1500m, mixed relay, mass start en team sprint.
EK allround en sprint Heerenveen: 6-8 januari: allroundvierkamp en sprintvierkamp.
Viercontinentenkampioenschap Quebec 13-15 januari: 500m, 1000m, 1500m, 3000m/5000m, mass start en misschien wat teamdingen
Gazprom ISU World Cup #3 Minsk 21-22 januari: 500m, 3000m / 5000m, mixed relay, team pursuit en team sprint.
Gazprom ISU World Cup #4 Harbin 23 januari: 5000m / 10000m.
WK junioren Inzell 10-12 februari: 500m, 1000m, 1500m, 3000m/5000m, mass start, team pursuit, team sprint
Gazprom ISU World Cup Final Pyongyang (nee dus niet PyeongChang) 29-31 feb: programma nog onbekend
WK afstanden Heerenveen 2-5 maart: 500m, 1000m, 1500m, 3000m/5000m, 5000m/10000m, mass start, team sprint, team pursuit
ISU Super Big Cup Money Final Qatar 20-31 maart : met iedere dag een mass start op een 333m baan die nog gebouwd moet worden

So you're arguing for a season setup like this:

Nov: World Cup 1/2
Dec: World Cup 3/4
Jan: World Single Distance Championships
Feb: World Cup 5, European Allround/Sprint Championships
Mar: World Cup Final, World Allround/Sprint Championships

Not a bad take honestly, since it would give each type of competition we have (single distance and samalog) their own spot in the season, really allowing skaters to focus on something for an extended period of time.

Awarding EK/4CC medals at the world championships, but after three distances seems confusing to me, but I know you're a fan of the three-distance-idea :D
 
Gelet op de nog steeds zeer strenge Corona maatregelen in Azië en de gesloten luchtruimen in Oost-Europa denk ik niet dat er in Azië internationale wedstrijden georganiseerd worden komend seizoen.
Het zal dus veel Europa en Noord-Amerika worden. Ik hoop op 3 WB wedstrijden in november/december. 2 eind januari/begin februari en 2 begin maart, gevolgd door de finale.

October: National qualifiers for WC, first block.
November/December: WC1-3. Small combinations. (500+1000, 1500+5000/3000 and so on)
Late December, X-mas holidays: Samalog WK (sprint and allround. EK and 4CC medals awarded too)

Early January: NKs single distances (=qualifiers WC, second block)
January/february: WC4-6. Single distances/team events.
Beginning of March: EK/4CC single distances
Middle of March: WSD WK (also deciding the World Cup." Final").
End of March: NKs allround and sprint.

Will not elaborate my idea about "Dreikampf" (yes, a german word) too much in this short posting, but imagine WC3 for the allrounders being a 500-1500-5000 (3000 for women) combination. Apart from being a qualifying event, it also points at a new event in the Olympics every fourth year. Same distances, but then connected to the single distances.

...but maybe adding this: Hence -- given "normal" quotas -- five male dutch allrounders qualify for WC1-3. Those WC events providing internal and external personal fights. A system where you get three WK participants if (lets say) inside top-10 in the qualifying standings after three events, two if both skaters finish top-14. etc

...I also imagine the WC1-3 having the extra function to decide national quotas in A for single distances when the distance concerned is first skated in WC-block number two. (Yes, in this half we are back to A and B). Hence when you arrange the NK-afstanden, you both fight for spots to the World Cup, and the right to start in the A-division. Gives an advantage in the fight for places to the WSD WK.

... just four categories in the World Cup standings: allround and sprint for both gender.

I can also imagine seeing the emptiness of January in the current calendar being fixed with a “quick fix”: adding two weeks of outdoor skating with a catchy name such as “ISU outdoor challenge”. It’d consist of a single distance race on an outdoor rink such as Innsbruck, similar to a World Cup; a funny one-day event with a mass start and some rarely skated events, such as a 3000m for men; and as the main course, a global Sprint and Allround tournament on a different outdoor rink, such as Collalbo.

is it realistic? Probably not.

would it be cool? Probably.

De KBSF en de VLSU organiseren dit weekend de European Speed Skating Conference in Brussel. Meer dan vijftien Europese landen zijn aanwezig om de ontwikkeling van het langebaanschaatsen en de internationale kalender te bespreken.



Op deze conferentie stellen alle aanwezige nationale federaties zichzelf en hun projecten voor. Dat gaat over diverse projecten die tijdens de Covidperiode werden georganiseerd, over hun financiële stromen, systemen voor tijdsregistratie en een voorstelling van het ISU Development programma. Verder is ook het programma en de mogelijkheden in het CoE ofwel het Centre of Excellence in Heerenveen besproken, dat openstaat voor andere landen, en werd er afgesloten met de ISU wedstrijdkalender voor seizoen 2022-2023.
 
Ik zag dat in 2024 de Jeugd Olympische Winterspelen worden gehouden in Zuid-Korea. En jawel, het schaatsen staat gepland voor de hal in Gangneung. Een 500, 1500 meter, massastart en een gemengde estafette staan op het programma.
